You guys, you want to see this one, no joke. Laura & Don are quite possibly the most relaxed and laid back couple you will ever meet. These two know how to create the most sophisticated celebration, so unique to them, with zero fuss. From the get go, Laura knew she didn’t want a large wedding, but more of an afternoon tea, at the stunning Glen Magna Farms, where she and Don could spend the day mingling with her closest friends and family before they moved back south to West Virginia. I am so happy to report the day flowed flawlessly how she dreamed it would.
I’ve known Laura not only through her wedding planning process, but in my past life before I was a wedding photographer, so when she emailed me saying she had been following my work ever since I left, and knew she wanted me to be the one to document her elegant, simple garden wedding, I was ridiculously pumped. The thing about Laura is, she takes care of everyone around her, so I was thrilled to be able to help give her a day where she was the one to be pampered!
Laura decided to keep everything throughout the day low key, with just she and her mom together getting ready before the ceremony. Laura kept her style perfectly comfortable and classic, with her J Crew dress, and her killer Sam Edelman heels. She carried a bouquet that was to die for. With every flower I know the name of (and some I don’t) from roses, to peonies, to succulents, it looked like a perfect wildflower garden. With their perfectly timed day, we had plenty of time before the ceremony and a little bit later in the day for portraits of Laura & Don, as well as relaxed family formals, with the rest of the day left to celebrate the newlyweds, complete with afternoon tea, cake, and lawn games! The Russ Wilcox Jazz Group provided awesome music, and Robin and her team at Glen Magna ensured that no detail was overlooked. It was overall the perfect day.
In all seriousness, Laura, you are the epitome of classic beauty.
Laura & Don opted to have a first look so they could have the first time they saw each other be a private moment, without 60 pairs of eyes on them. Don completely lit up when he saw Laura, with good reason. She was absolutely glowing, and couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear the second they locked eyes.
These guys didn’t have to be told to just enjoy the moment and revel in the fact that it was their wedding day. Once you let go of the idea of what you’re supposed to do and just enjoy being together, the images just fall out of the camera (I may help the camera along, but that complete joy and honesty is where the magic really happens).
I can’t stop smiling at how absolutely comfortable Laura is in Don’s arms.
With the majority of our portraits done, the coupled ducked back inside, and waited for their ceremony to begin. Glen Magna provides such an amazing backdrop for a wedding ceremony, with their gorgeous wisteria garden.
So happy to be married!
As the afternoon wrapped up and it was time to say goodbye, we stole the couple away for just about 10 minutes for just a few more portraits under the weeping beech tree.
Laura & Don, thank you so, so much for being as wonderful as you are. I hope we see each other again in our travels – don’t ever change!
