We have come to learn recently that when we have a UConn couple, we can expect an amazingly beautiful wedding (we’re looking at you, Ali & Joe and Christina & Stephen!). Liz and Matt were no exception to the rule. We arrived down to the Inn At Mystic on a beautiful June Saturday, and immediately fell in love with the Inn at Mystic. We made our way up to the Hayley Mansion where Liz and her bridesmaids were prepping for the day, and the energy was awesome – everyone was so excited as hair and makeup was wrapping up, and the bridal suite is just stunning, looking over the river. Not only that, but I now think all bridesmaids should come with their own bottle of confetti in a champagne popper (you’ll see why later). From the look on Liz’s dad’s face when he saw her in her wedding gown for the first time, to UConn huskies cheers, to “union breaks” jokingly demanded by the groomsmen, a choreographed family dance to kick off the party, to a red carpet laid out for anyone brave enough to strut their stuff in the middle of the dance floor, we were smiling every moment of the day. I could go on all day typing about everything that was awesome about this wedding, but instead let’s just show you, shall we?
Can we talk about how loving Liz’s parents are? Their eyes lit up every time they caught a glimpse of her!
Meanwhile, the guys were having no fun in their rooms.
Just before the couple saw each other for the first time, we made a few portraits of each of them, and Liz was able to open the gift Matt gave her – a perfectly personalized itinerary of how their next week during their Nantucket honeymoon would go, complete with Liz’s beloved naps built in!
Often times our grooms will be a little nervous before their first look – not Matt. He was having fun the whole day, requesting his signature Blue Steel pose.
See what I mean about how handy a little (okay, this was a LOT) of confetti comes in?
With everyone tucked back inside, guests began to arrive, and before we knew it, it was time for Liz to come down the aisle.
We always encourage our couples to take a few minutes to themselves before anything happens after their ceremony. We are always there to document it, but this time, we saw that they were headed straight for under the flag post, so we shot from about a football field away for this shot.
As soon as they came back from their “holy crap we’re married!” moment together, the emotions ran freely, and everyone enjoyed cocktail hour!
I can’t tell you how much I love the tent at the Inn at Mystic. It’s beautifully draped in soft fabric and lined with stunning chandeliers that makes it so much more romantic than a regular tent!
Guests had no idea that Liz’s family had a flash mob prepared to open the dance floor!
As the sun set, we snuck out to the cliffs overlooking Mystic harbor while the sky turned all sorts of pinks and oranges.
Shout selfie on the dance floor!
